Editing Diary #2 - Finishing off the Sound

There is a video of us finishing off the editing the sound levels in Sony Vegas Pro.

This screen shot shows you  just a small section of sound for our film. As you can see we have layers many different sound effects together to make the film more appealing. This is only a small section because we didn't want to give too much of the film away.

Costume - Research & Planning

Our antagonist and protagonists go by a different color scheme and clothing style to make it easier for the audience to recognize friend from foe.

Below are images of the costumes for the antagonist and protagonists.

Antagonist

The antagonist wear dark black clothing because dark colors connote evil, death and darkness. Dark colors are are also commonly used in representing the antagonist in action, thriller and horror films, therefore the audience will immediately be able to tell the difference between the antagonists and the protagonists.


Protagonists

The protagonists are still wearing slightly dark clothing, which include a dark green top and dark grey or black trousers/shorts. This is so it allows the audience to easily differentiate between the antagonist and protagonists. The protagonist clothing still stay true to the genre with what they are wearing (e.g. military camouflage style clothing)

Editing Diary #1 - The Sniper Scene

This video is of us editing our film and is also a quick sneak peek of our film.

Filming Equipment

The equipment we used for our film were:

          Canon EOS 70D with a Canon EF-S Zoom - 18-135mm lens
          K&F Concept Cardioid Microphone
          FOTOWELT Glide-Cam Stabilizer
          Tripod

Here is what our set-up looked like on the day of filming

We chose the Canon EOS 70D because it is a powerful camera, capable of shooting in Full HD, 1920x1080, at 30 frames per second. The camera has great features such as auto focus tracking, a high ISO range which allowed us to record in a better quality and make it easier for us to shoot.

The K&F Concept cardioid microphone was attached to the top of the camera and connected to the mic input on the side of the camera. Getting an external mic for a camera is a lot better that using the built in mic. The built in mics quality is a lot worse that the external mic. When we chose which microphone to purchase, there were two different types of microphones - cardioid and omnidirectional microphones. Cardioid mics only pick up sound from in front and rejects any sounds from behind. An omnidirection mic will mick up sound from all around the mic, and this is good for scenes where you are trying to capture more ambient sound.

When filming, we kept switching between the tripod and the camera stabilizer as some shots that had more action required the stabilizer and still shots required the tripod. When filming action shots, the camera/camera operator have to move around a lot, and the glide-cam stabilizer significantly reduces any shake by counter balancing the movement.

Actor Interviews - Research & Planning

We interviewed two of the main actors for our film - Ollie Hart and Cameron Dentus.

Cameron's part (the guy on the right) in the film is to play one for the two protagonists roles in the opening film. His character is part of a secrete alliance, who are a group of highly skilled individuals, who have been set up by the government to stop antagonists.

Ollie's part (the guy on the left) is to play an antagonist mercenary role, who is out to capture the two protagonists and along with many other antagonists, they are here to take control of the area.
